DAY 49: AN OUTBREAK AT FCI-LOMPOC and MISSING INFECTED STAFF

The BOP claims to update its data everyday at 3:00 p.m. Central Time. Today it was hours late. Perhaps the oddity of the data it eventually did report may explain the late update. Today was the largest one-day jump in number of confirmed infected inmates: 546. Most of that was comprised by an increase of 488 confirmed infected inmates at FCI-Lompoc alone.

While this was quite alarming, what also is odd (if not alarming) is the fact that the number of recovered staff now outnumber the cumulative number of infected staff. The cumulative number of staff has, bizarrely, decreased from 365 to 244 while the number of recovered staff has increased from 149 to 278. As a result, there is a negative number of active infected staff: -34.

The BOP is now at Day 49 of its outbreak and has exactly a total of 3,000 infected staff and inmates, which is over 2.5 times what the U.S. had on Day 49 of its outbreak.
